Dictionary data has been filtered, combined, normalised, indexed and divided into browser-readable files. Coverage is not a guarantee of acceptance by any particular puzzle or word-game dictionary.

Copyright 2000–2026 Kevin Atkinson. Includes American, British (-ise and -ize), Canadian and Australian variants through size 85. Source revisions and checksums are in the dataset manifest.

Privacy and support
Searches are processed on your device. Dictionary files are downloaded from the hosting provider. Search history is not persisted. What Word Fits is free to use, with no ads, analytics or trackers. The hosting provider receives requests for site and dictionary files.
Support is entirely optional. The footer support link, when configured, opens an external payment provider in a new tab. No payment widgets or provider scripts are loaded on this site. If you follow the link, the provider processes your payment under its own terms and privacy policy; the site's no-trackers statement does not extend to that external page.
